Escape The Jam
Do you like rooms? Do you also like escaping from said rooms? Welcome to Escape the Jam, an informal one-day exploration of technologically mediated Escape Room puzzles brought to you by Electric Perfume, Little Dada and The Hand Eye Society! We're going to explore some basic puzzle design concepts, have a few speakers talk about the possibilities of using technology in Escape Rooms (featuring a pair of headphones which allows the user to "hear light" and an eerie object NFC reader), and jam on some puzzle ideas together. Possible topics for discussion: What makes a good Escape Room puzzle? How to create puzzles that are consistent with the theme or narrative? What can technology such as augmented reality, sensors, pressure plates, lasers and digital audio/visual components bring to the player experience, as an alternative to stagehands and Sudoku?
We're asking for a modest entry fee of $7 to cover snacks, and all other proceeds will go towards supporting Electric Perfume. HES members get in free, as well as a 10% discount from Real Escape Games Toronto; just use the promo code that was e-mailed to you or present your membership card at the venue.
In Collaboration With
The Hand Eye Society is a Toronto not-for-profit dedicated to supporting and showcasing videogames made primarily as a form of creative expression.
We provide audience development, education, creative opportunities, mentorship, knowledge sharing and inspiration to game creators, enthusiasts, and the game-curious in Toronto.
Founded in 2009, it is the first videogame arts organization in the world.
Little Dada is a group of creative technologists for social change. We aim to interlace the opposites and contradictions that arise from our fractured society. Physical and digital. Have and have nots. We are not selling you our new app. We are exploring the beauty and the folly of the moment.
